April 26, 2005:Syria withdraws its remaining 14,000 troops from Lebanon amidst international pressure over the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, in which Syria was suspected to have played a role.Syria began occupying Lebanon in 1976, during the country’s civil war, and was supposed to end in 1986, after the civil war ended.
